“Always stay focused. What are your goals today? What are your goals tomorrow? Always be thinking forward. Here at Dairy Queen, we have a goal-setting session every January.", Steve Mitchell, owner of Dairy Queen in Bloomfield.

Greene County CEO students are learning all about what it's like to own a successful franchise in our community. Steve Mitchell and his daughter, Carrie Bennett, gave students a tour of the DQ location that's been in business for more than 35 years! Students heard about the history of Dairy Queen and how Steve went about owning his own store. Steve says his passion for business started when he was in high school. He has experience working in the grocery industry and other fast food establishments. Steve shared some of the pros and cons of owning a franchise, the workforce challenges he faces, and the many industry changes, including how fast food is going automated. He also talked about how important it is to learn from others in your line of work. Students asked about rising costs and future plans for the location. Steve ended the visit with showing the class how to make an ice cream cone the DQ way! In business, Steve says, "If we do our job and do it well, the customers will reward us."

Thank you, Steve & Carrie, for spending time with Greene County CEO and for the delicious sweet treat too!🍦
