Business Visit: Johnson County Farm Bureau
Our class had the opportunity to learn from local professionals deeply rooted in agriculture and rural advocacy.
We heard from Carol Bennett with the Johnson County Farm Bureau, who shared how the organization continues to support and advocate for farmers and rural communities. Founded in 1923 right here in Johnson County, the Farm Bureau is funded through membership dues, grants, and support from affiliated organizations—not tax dollars. With 398 members locally, the organization welcomes anyone with an interest or connection to agriculture.
Carol also highlighted programs like Ag in the Classroom, supported through the state Farm Bureau Foundation, which helps bring agricultural education directly to students.
We also visited with Dillon Street - Country Financial, who shared insight into the evolving world of insurance. Originally founded to serve farmers, Country Financial has grown to provide coverage for property, casualty, and life insurance.
Additionally, from Josh Wagner we learned how crop insurance plays a critical role in protecting farmers—helping guarantee income in the event of natural disasters that impact crop production.
Thank you to these professionals for sharing their knowledge and helping our students better understand the importance of agriculture, risk management, and rural advocacy in our community!
