Wayne County CEO Visits Piap Oil, Inc.

On Wednesday, October 29th, Wayne County CEO students visited Piap Oil, Inc., a locally owned oil production company now in its third generation of owner-operators. You can always spot a Piap Oil well — they’re painted red and black, proudly displaying the Fairfield Mules colors in honor of the Basnett brothers’ alma mater.

Owners Ross and Reid Basnett grew up in the oil business and have continued the family legacy. Ross, a geologist who also works for Campbell Oil in White County, manages the financial aspects of the company. Reid serves as the mechanic and operations manager, overseeing the 365-days-a-year maintenance of each well.

Both brothers gained much of their experience through hands-on work and on-the-job training, with Ross furthering his expertise through his studies in geology. During the visit, Ross shared that the oil industry has provided them with “a good life, not an easy life.”

About six months ago, Piap Oil had the opportunity to triple the size of their business. Since then, they’ve faced fluctuating oil prices, record-low winter temperatures, and heavy spring rains — yet their passion for the work remains evident.

Ross and Reid’s dad stopped by during the visit, bringing along donuts and breakfast pizza for the students! We are grateful to all three of these gentlemen for sharing their experience and for their warm hospitality.

A special thank you as well to Wayne County CEO student Jaxon Basnett for arranging this visit!
